We will introduce the history of Kongo-ryu style with the biography of Masters.

Born in the village of Nakazato on Kume island, Okinawa

Sep 1922

Studied karatedo under Master Funakoshi Gichin

1929

Studied Ryukyu kobudo under Master Yabiku Moden

1932

Opened a dojo in Ikaho, Gunma Prefecture

1934

Invited Master Mabuni Kenwa to Ikaho and studied under him for 6 months

1940

Opened a dojo in Naha, Okinawa, and established the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Kenkyukai (Society for the Preservation and Research of Ryukyuan Kobudo)

1957

Taught Ryukyu kobudo at the Itosu-kai Headquarters

1961

Established the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai (Society for the Preservation and Promotion of Ryukyuan Kobudo)

Aug 1964

Published Ryukyu Kobudo Taikan (The Encyclopedia of Ryukyu Kobudo)

Sep 1, 1970

Passed away at age 73

The First Shihan License was bestowed on Master Ryusho Sakagami by Master Taira.

Jun 1955

Opened the Itosu-kai Headquarter Dojo in Yokohama

May 1960

Awarded the first Shihan certificate by Taira Shinken

Nov 1961

Appointed head of the Kanto region by the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai

May 1963

Awarded Hanshi 8-dan by Taira Shinken

Apr 1969

Appointed advisor to the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai

Jan 1984

Founded Ryukyu Kobudo Kongo-ryu

Master Sadaaki Sakagami was appointed Shihan and head of the Kanto region by the Okinawa Headquarters of the Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai in 1969.

Produced the short film Nunchaku Gijutsu (Nunchaku Techniques)

1994

Became the Shuseki Shinan of Ryukyu Kobudo Kongo-ryu after the passing of Sakagami Ryusho

2010

Established Ryukyu Kobudo Kongo-kai

 

2017

Produced and Supervised the DVD "Ryukyu Kobudo Kongo-ryu : Bo-jutsu"
